I don't normally reply to comments with blogs, and I know it's impolite, so please forgive me.
Or don't. Given what I'm going to say, it hardly matters.
Funnymerc's comment was:
"ikr first the blogs disappear and the forums, then that Heactonee thing and now this. Its getting outta hand" [in response to powert's observation that we now have 2 spammers]
Well, people of RSP, let me tell you something. It isn't GETTING out of hand. It's GOTTEN out of hand. It's so far out of hand that even the fanatics role-playing as Norse gods are overwhelmed. There are about 60 new spam posts every single day, and I anticipate the rate of spamming will increase exponentially with every new bot we get.
And you know who's to blame? It's not the trolls - trolls will be trolls, you can't change that. It's not the role-players either, they don't do anything. It's not any of the groups or people that we like to turn into scapegoats.
The person at fault is YOU. Every single one of you, and me for that matter, is to blame for what has happened to this site.
Why? Because we had the power to prevent this. We had the power to fix this. We came to this site, looking for answers about whatever, expecting that someday we would do great things. Instead, we turned to the dark side, letting our petty arguments dominate our lives and drag us into a constant state of war. We were supposed to save the world, and instead we have destroyed it, figuratively speaking.
I'll admit that most of the blame lies with me. I'm the reason trolls first came to this site, as I inadvertently allowed a psychopath in my life to find this site and trash it, posting the URL on every trolling site out there. More than that, I actively tried to destroy this site to satisfy my own desire for everything to crash and burn.
But I won't take responsibility for ALL of this. Like I said, everybody here has the power to save this site, yet nobody cares enough to actually do anything. We're all too busy arguing. United we stand, divided we fall. Are you going to stand or fall, people?
If you WANT the spammers to go away, you have to MAKE them go away. You have to FLAG their posts and tell others to do so. But before that you have to find some way to work together, because fixing this shit-hole of a website requires more than just one person half-heartedly flagging posts they don't like until they give up out of boredom/despair. You have to commit to making this work, and if you're not going to do that then stop fuckiing complaining about the spam and the trolls because it's YOUR fault they have free rein of the place.
Not Darius', not the government's, not 4Chan's, not that 12-year-old you don't like. It's YOUR fault.
I don't care how, but you have to find some way to set aside your differences, or at least compartmentalize them. Do that, or this site goes under, simple ultimatum. I said two years ago that metahuman-kind needs to be their own country. I don't believe in "metahumans" as such, but maybe that's an idea that might work? Like, establish a code of conduct and stuff, elect a responsible person to judge petty disputes, require a warrant to flag non-spam posts, etc. Obviously, being the internet, we can't enforce obedience through violence, so I guess we'd just have to be mature enough to follow the rules and just exclude from society anybody who doesn't. I dunno, could be something to think about.
Or if anybody has another idea, maybe you could try that. Or better yet, if somebody could find Darius in real life and drag his butt back here. I don't know how, but we all need to just swallow our pride, pull our woolly heads in and work together if we actually want to have this site.
That's my rant for today. I've said my bit, so now I'm gonna sit back and wait for you lot to mull this over in your heads. Or flag my blog just because my name appears at the top of it. Up to you, I don't care.
And Funnymerc, I'm sorry to drag your name into this. This wasn't aimed solely at you, honest.
It's true... We wanted to be
It's true... We wanted to be heroes, and now were just @#! holes... What do we do?
Let's start by spreading the word.
Tell everybody to read this blog, or at least tell them off for behaving badly.
