I'm not quite sure if anyone person can truly "Change the world", but I do believe in using my powers to help others. I live in a small town, but the town I live in has a couple of gangs here that come down from a larger city north of here to hide out, and they often cause trouble. I've gotten in a lot of scuffles with them, and the most I ever combated at once was eight. I looked a little ruffed up in the end, but they were unconscious, so I declared myself the winner, lol.
It's odd, but when I think back upon the times I've helped people, it's usually not during violent crimes; it's often while protecting people from everday disasters. The one that sticks in my mind the most vividly was when I ran into a burning building. I think it was my first save as a matter of fact.
My town's local dentist office was on fire, and the owner as well as his wife and kids lived on the second floor above the office. When I saw it was on fire the firemen had already arrived, but then I heard one of the firemen saying that one of his teamates went in and hadn't come out, but it was too dangerous to go in after them because the building was unstable.
I started towards the building but a police officer stopped me and directed me to go back. I had half a mind to go back, but I sensed that something really bad would happen if I did. Often times, before this incident, I had seen people in trouble and danger, but I decided not to act because I was afraid of being seen as a freak.
This time was different; I had to go in. I told the Officer okay, and I backed off and ran around to the back of the building where he couldn't see me. I didn't bother using the door knob; at the speed I was traveling I would bust the door into spinters anyway. Once I was inside it was full of smoke, and I truly was scared, because it was nothing like the movies made it appear to be. I began to choke, so I got down on my hands and knees and began crawling; using remote viewing to see as much of the building's rooms as I could without having to go there. I sensed something in the basement, so I started moving there.
The smoke wasn't as bad in the basement, so I stood up. I heard someone hollering, and I looked around and found the fireman: He was trapped under a bunch of rubble. I ran over to him and he told me that he thinks one of the dentists kids was upstairs in the house portion of the building, and that I should go after her instead. I told him no, and that I could get him out.
The rubble appeared to have a few 2x4 boards at the base so I grabbed those and pushed upwards with all my strength. I felt it moving a little, but then the board snapped and it collapsed again. The fireman was yelling at me now to go after the girl instead before the building came down. I told him I could get him out, and then I heard the girl;' she was down on the main floor. There were lots of flames and smoke on the main floor, and I knew she wouldn't last long, so I went after her, and showed her the way out and told her to go run for her parents, when I saw that she had exited the building I went back after the fireman. I didn't waste any time trying to find any boards; I shoved my hands under all the rubble and exploded upwards with my legs, and the rubble went off of him enough for me to pull him out with one of my hands, and then I dropped the rubble once I knew he was out. He was limping, but he was overall okay and we headed back towards the stair well when we heard a huge crash and and then everything went dark. I was screaming at the top of my lungs thinking we were about to die because I was such a stupid fool for thinking I had time to save them both.
I then realized that I wasn't burning, and everything was dark, therefore I wouldn't be burning alive any time soon. The ceiling was low and I was able to touch it. I began punching at the ceiling as hard as I could and the firman asked me what the hell I was doing and told me to stop because he thought I was in shock or something and that I'd hurt myself if I kept hitting at the ceiling. I knew what I was doing, so I continued hitting at it, and then a little light began filtering through and I knew I was close so I jumped up as hard and fast as I could and busted a huge hole in the ceiling head first. Which was probably a mistake, because I got really light headed and dropped to my knees for balance and everyones voices and thoughts seemed to be jumbled together then everything snapped back to normal and I got up and hoisted the fireman up through the hole and he lifted me out, and we ran outside to a bunch of very happy firefighters and a lovely couple that couldn't be happier to see there daughter alive and well.
After that day I wasn't as scared to help people using my powers when they needed it, sometimes though I still get a little shy about doing it, but usually it isn't anything that big.
