What is the significance of the date December 21, 2012?
RealSuperPowers.com is an attempt to broaden public knowledge within the sector of real, attainable super powers. These are not world super powers, as in the United States, the former Soviet Union, or China, but rather super abilities in humans.
Super powers are usually only taken seriously as fictional character attributes in entertainment, like "Heroes," "The 4400," and "Superman." It is our desire that the true existence of real super powers in human beings be firmly established, so that we all might benefit.
In the context most similar to that used here, Wikipedia has at one point defined super powers as
"extraordinary powers or abilities possessed by fictional characters, particularly superheroes and supervillains."
However, since we are searching for real super powers, we shall define them as
"extraordinary powers or abilities currently or at one time possessed by actual persons, living or dead."
Our theory is that while super powers are fun and fascinating to read about in a fictional context, the actual super abilities possessed by real present-day human beings have been kept under wraps.
There are many possibilities that can explain why this could be.
Perhaps various governments or privately-funded institutions have top-secret programs focused on enhanced human abilities, and limiting knowledge of such programs to a select few is a matter of national (or institutional) security.
Perhaps the "super" individuals themselves are separate from any such organization, but are keeping their abilities a secret so as to avoid institutions with potentially exploitative goals.
In a similar vein, perhaps such individuals fear other implications of revealing their abilities, including modernized witch hunts.
It's even possible those possessing super powers assume that everyone else has similar abilities, and since they've heard nothing, the matter is not important, so they've revealed nothing.
All this is theory, however, so until the day dawns that super powers are widespread and common, we may not know.
Again, we refer to Wikipedia, where it has been stated that,
"2012 is sometimes claimed to be a year of spiritual transformation (or apocalypse). Many esoteric sources interpret the completion of the thirteenth B'ak'tun cycle in the Long Count of the Maya calendar (which occurs on December 21 by the most widely held correlation) to mean there will be a major change in world order."
There are many theories connected with this date. Further down the Wikipedia entry, it has been stated,
"Many new age spiritualists and philosophers ("new-agers") believe humankind will enter an age of enlightenment in 2012. There are a range of varying, generally positive, beliefs shared by a subset of spiritualists from the mundane to exceptional -- including a positive social shift and age of peace, mankind becoming psychic and connected by a collective, and/or an evolution of the human race into non-corporeal beings made of "spiritual" energy, or light energy. An alternative view is that we are already thought-forms and will be realizing our true selves in this year."
However far-fetched this may sound, one thing remains clear--
Psychic and energy abilities can be considered super powers.
Therefore, it is possible that on December 21, 2012, humanity on the whole will be granted super powers.
In spite of all this, left unexplained are the origins of those super abilities already in existence.
